✨ Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

For the cookies:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional, but gives a holiday flavor)
  • 3 tablespoons milk

For the icing:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (red + green for Christmas)
  • Sprinkles or edible decorations

🧑‍🍳 Directions

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
  4. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture.
  5. Stir in the milk until dough forms.
  6. Wrap dough in plastic and chill 1 hour (this helps them keep shape!).

2. Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll dough out on floured surface about ¼ inch thick.
  3. Cut out shapes using Christmas cookie cutters (trees, stars, gingerbread men)!
  4. Place on baking sheet and bake 8–10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.

3. Decorate

  1. Blend powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing.
  2. Divide into small bowls and add food coloring.
  3. Use piping bags or a spoon to decorate.
  4. Add sprinkles, candy pearls, or edible glitter!
