✨ Christmas Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
For the cookies:
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional, but gives a holiday flavor)
- 3 tablespoons milk
For the icing:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (red + green for Christmas)
- Sprinkles or edible decorations
🧑🍳 Directions
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture.
- Stir in the milk until dough forms.
- Wrap dough in plastic and chill 1 hour (this helps them keep shape!).
2. Bake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll dough out on floured surface about ¼ inch thick.
- Cut out shapes using Christmas cookie cutters (trees, stars, gingerbread men)!
- Place on baking sheet and bake 8–10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
3. Decorate
- Blend powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing.
- Divide into small bowls and add food coloring.
- Use piping bags or a spoon to decorate.
- Add sprinkles, candy pearls, or edible glitter!
